Attorney General of New Jersey " PTs are not authorized to engage in the practice of dry needling"

On February 9, 2017 New Jersey Attorney General CHRISTOPHER S. PORRINO in response to MICHELLE L. MILLER Acting Director of Division of Consumer Affairs, regarding Scope of Physical Therapy Practice – Dry Needling:

"You have requested an opinion as to whether the Physical Therapist Licensing Act of 1983, N.J.S.A. 45:9-37.11 to -37.34f, authorizes physical therapists to engage in the practice of “dry needling” (also referred to as “intramuscular stimulation” or “IMS”). For the reasons expressed below, under the current statutory construct, physical therapists are not authorized to engage in the practice of dry needling. "
