I am horrified at the prospect of physical therapists using acupuncture techniques without training or accountable supervision. In have enjoyed the benefits of using a trained acupuncturist to relieve chronic pain and pressure in my back, legs and feet for 15 years. In the course of this treatment, my acupuncturist discovered other health issues I had which led to surgery to resolve them. I believe that allowing physical therapists to hold themselves out to be competent with "dry needles" would be tremendously misleading to a public not well versed in the complexity of the practice. My acupuncturist went through 4 years of rigourous training to learn the fundamentals of her practice. I doubt that a few weeks in a community college would measure up to that.
