Today I attended the public forum re: physical therapist's use of dry needling.  I feel more like I attended a political debate.  As a satisfied patient of dry needling, I resonated with others who found their physical therapists to be knowledgeable and apt in their administration of dry needles.  Having been to accupuncturists, other PTs, neurosurgeons, chiropractors, and ortho doctors, I found relief with the outstanding care that I have received by my PT and the use of needles. I listened to the opposition as well.  However, they all seemed to have the same statements about the random times when needling went awry.  Perhaps they missed the Logic 101 class.  Following their line of reasoning, I would never have a colonoscopy as sometimes a colon is perforated, nor give birth due to maternal or infant mortality, or even eat due to choking hazards.  Sure, situations arise in all medical practices.  I found it notable they did not address accupuncture horror stories.  I felt that today's town hall was a more political event, to keep cash in the pocket of the accupuncturist, than an effort to address the patient's needs. My physical therapist has been the most helpful medical professional that I have encountered, provided the most patient education, and has certainly provided the most relief.  I would request that the board maintain patient's needs above a political agenda.  Kudos to those physical therapists who are providing this service.
