Trigger point dry needling is distinctly different from acupuncture as the treatment goal and method is different. Physical therapist's possess the anatomical, physiological and clinical knowledge to perform trigger point dry needling safely and effectively. Continuing education should be required for this in order to learn the proper way to dry needle. Dry needling does help patients, I've personally experienced it in clinic.
