Dry Needling

I first learned of dry needling in 2016 when my doctor referred me to Orthopedic Physical Therapy, Inc. for treatment of severe migraines.  My physical therapist, Kristen Wright, performed dry needling on me for trigger points related to the migraines.  I was frankly surprised and amazed about how quickly the trigger points were relieved.  I have experienced acupuncture and deep messages for relieving trigger points.  They did not compare in any way to dry needling.  Ms. Wright is highly educated and skilled in dry needling.  The guidelines used by her and other physical therapists for dry needling need to be made into law in the state of Virginia. This specific treatment modality is unlike any other I have experienced.  If made into law, this may influence insurance companies to realize trigger point dry needling is a valid medical treatment performed by trained physical therapists and eventually pay for the treatment.
