I'm not a member of any gun-related organization, pro or con, but rather simply a concerned citizen of Virginia.  As one who, unarmed, has stared down the barrel of a handgun wielded by an individual with malicious intent during commission of a crime, I know first hand the feeling, and the reality, of helplessness in such a situation.  I would not wish that experience upon anyone. 

Many areas within Virginia State Forests are remote; the likelihood of law enforcement assistance during a violent encounter is similarly remote.

I ask that the Virginia State Forest regulations be amended to provide to law abiding visitors to the State Forests the ability to defend themselves should the need arise.  Please act favorably upon the petition.  Thank you.
