Criminals do not obey "Gun bans" or "NO gun zones".  Law Enforcement only arrives after the crime has ocurred.  Law abiding citizens should be able to arm and defend themselves against criminals outside their homes.  When being attacked, only the armed citizen can defend themselves, the police are never around or can be contacted and arrive in time.
