Window dressing.

I am a Licensed Veterinary Technician in the Commonwealth.  I have spoken with other LVTs about this subject and have previously commented on this subject, as well.  My opinion remains the same as it was during my previous comment.  Although I appreciate anyone wishing to increase their knowledge and education (LVT or not), I don't feel  this proposed regulation change is necessary.  All professionals may (and should) increase their knowledge everyday.  However, an Act of Congress is not needed to exercise that choice.  In all of my conversations with other LVTs regarding this proposal in Virginia I haven't found one of them that believes their skill is lacking due to the current regulation of a minimum 6 CE hours per year.  On the contrary, each LVT feels very comfortable in their skill and knowledge of how to best treat their patients and clients.  So, why then, do we need to ask for an Act of Congress from the Virginia Legislature to change a regulation that clearly does not need to be changed?  If these LVTs are currently skilled professionals, what benefit would be gained with a regulatory change from the Capital of the Commonwealth?  The answer is nothing.  Nothing more than "window dressing" to create a facade of "keeping up with other states' regulations."  Regulation for one State does not have to be regulation for all.  (Thus, why we have separate states in the first place.)  I appreciate every LVT in the Commonwealth (and beyond) for the care and professionalism they apply to their daily jobs.  However, this proposed regulation does nothing to improve the overall care of the patients or protect the public and has already unnecessarily used too much energy and recourses of the Commonwealth.
