One doesn't magically get safer when entering a state forest.  Actually the opposite is true.  Criminals don't obey laws.......this is why we call them criminals.  Forbidding one to defend him/herself in a state park just sets up a safe haven for the criminals. One should be allowed to carry opening or concealed a handgun just as one can in other parts of the state.
