As a former educator and as a current assistant professor of educational psychology at VCU, I strongly support the continuation of the social foundations requirement for teacher licensure. It is essential that our pre-service teachers are equipped with an understanding of the historical and cultural underpinnings of education to make critically informed decisions as practitioners.
