Allow it!

The only reason guns were initially banned was to stop poaching on public land.  Criminals have realized that since the regular citizen is unarmed in these areas, with the exception of maybe a small pocket knife, that they are fair and easy game to be taken advantage of.  While there may not have been many highly publicized incidents such as murders or rapes, there have been muggings and the sort.  Not to mention the recent incidents of wild life across the country being a little too bold in their approach towards humans.  Stop feeding the animals and leaving food/trash behind for them to be encouraged to view people as a source of food.  I personally have had my own close encounter with a beautiful black bear in a West Virginia forest, and I am glad that I was carrying a pistol and a rifle.  Thankfully after sniffing at me from a distance he decided to walk away and look for other food and we both parted peacefully.  I didn't want to have to shoot him, but I would rather live than be a meal.

The right to keep and bear arms should not be infringed.  Those of us who do carry lawfully do so without scaring people and for our own self protection.  We would also be more than glad to help those of you who don't like to carry guns in your time of trouble if we happen to be nearby.  We aren't here to be a threat, and you shouldn't be so afraid of those of us who you see carrying a gun.  Be more afraid of those people that you don't see carrying a gun and have worse intentions.
