Our society has become one with increasing violence, or at least increased awareness of the violence already present. No place is safe. Universities, where guns are prohibited? Virginia Tech and several other incidents served to prove that to be false. Churches? Several recent incidents with armed assailants have proven that churches are not immune. National Parks, State Parks, etc.? Recent armed attacks have shown that being in the woods is no defense from human predators. The facts actually point out that so-called 'gun free zones' actually attract those with evil intent. Read the following: http://www.wcpo.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=d26c29ff-f134-4202-bc40-947534a6de3c The update on 11/21/08 is particularly important. An excerpt: "We also conducted our own analysis of mass murders in the U.S. The vast majority occurred in schools or on college campuses where firearms are banned as a matter of state statutes. Others took place in post offices where firearms are banned as a matter of federal law. Most of the rest took place in shopping malls or other businesses where the owners posted signs prohibiting firearm possession by anyone including those with CCW permits." We need to allow people to defend themselves with firearms if they so choose. 'Gun free zones', regardless of what kind of area they are in, encourage those who would do great harm to seek them out. Our State Forests should not be preferred targets for the bad guys.
