I am writing to support basic health and safety regulations for clinics and centers that perform abortions. Women who chose an abortion should be entitled to conditions that are clean, instruments that are sterile, and personnel who have appropriate medical and emergency training.Centers that perform abortions need to show documented compliance with legal standards and know that they will be inspected. This is simply foundational to proper care involving a medical procedure. I see no good reason to exempt the procedure of abortion from standards that are imposed on other procedures that involve at least as much risk and in some cases even less risk.No womans legal right to an abortion should put her in a situation where health and safety regulations are non-existent or insufficient, and where there is no accountability for violations.
