Uphold Standards, Protect Women

Board of Health,

I am a man, a high school math teacher, a citizen of the United States for 58 years and a member of the Commonwealth of Virginia for 58 years. I am disappointed that people think they can decide to take the life of an innocent, young living human being receiving nutrition and oxygen while in a mothers womb waiting for the time when he/she will breathe on his/her own. I am also deeply troubled that health and safety regulations at Womens Health Centers that perform abortions are in jeopardy. The abortion industry claims that its centers are safe; if that is true, why have inspections turned up 300 violations in the last two years" Violations includeblood splattered exam tables and equipment, unsterilized needles, incomplete lifesaving equipment, violations of Virginia parental consent laws, an absence of reporting of possible cases of child abuse, and others. Anyone entering a medical facility for an invasive procedure should not be subjected to these deficiencies. If a woman chooses to have an abortion she should be able to have it done in an environment that meets basic health and safety standards, is clean, and has staff that is properly trained. These health and safety standards simply ensure that abortion centers meet common sense standards of care. Please protect our women, and leave the previously passed regulations and standards in place. Thomas D. Abernethy, Jr.
