Standard D&C's outside the abortion industry are performed at hospitals in the carefully maintained OR. Hospitals must abide by the strictest standards to protect patients. Abortion facilities  must continue to abide by the standards set forth by the state of Virignia to ensure their patients are getting hospital-quality care. In fact, the standards should be higher because abortion facilities do not have all of the emergency measures that a hospital has available.
