Uphold Standards, Protect Women

Board of Health,

Numerous documented violations in abortion clinics over the past two years support the need for protecting women who seek abortions. The basic health and safety of women should not be compromised in facilities with inadequate life-saving equipment, inaccessible paths for emergency responders and their equipment, lack of cleanliness and sterilization, improperly trained staff, and disregard for parental notification laws and for notifying authorities when child abuse laws are suspected to have been violated. I support the current health and safety regulations for abortion clinics that were recently put in place by the Virginia Board of Health. They make so much sense that it is hard to fathom why anyone could think otherwise unless they have a callous disregard for the health and safety of women. Safety and cleanliness standards should be enforced wherever medical procedures are performed, even if those are something as ugly as abortion. Kathy Stohr
