The fact that this amendment was brought to the table over reading from an AP class is ludicrous in itself. Toni Morrison is a Nobe Prize Winner and one of the best American writers alive. The part in  Beloved that is being protested is a minute piece of the book.

Teachers should be given the professional respect and courtesy to choose literature for their classes to read based on their experience, what is real and relevant, SOL requirements and , especially in a senior English class, with an eye on what students will be expected to know in the future.

Let's learn to trust teachers again. Let's stop making amendments based on small groups of uninformed people.
