I agree with other comments that "sensitivity" to texts is very subjective. It is true that some parents have  objected to items found in adopted text books, while other parents are not concerned by the same content. If we are to adjust our lesson plans and resources/materials to cater to every parent's right to challenge material in school, teachers will be buried under a mountain of additional lesson plans. Parents are important stakeholders in their children's education, so a literacy panel can be set up to discuss materials for use in the classroom by grade level. Many competent school districts have established this already and developed from that a division wide policy. Common sense must prevail here.
