Commenter: Janet Phillips, grandparent,

Strongly support amendment re: parental notification

Dear Board Members,

As you consider the merits of the amendment to policy re: the notification of parents when their children will be exposed to material of a sexual nature, it is hoped that your own sense of propriety over any information being supplied to your own children would help you reach the conclusion that this amendment is vital.   To have No opportunity to know or choose whether your child will be exposed to material that exceeds boundaries you have determined to be wise and in their best interests is an attack on the family unit of no small means.  Parents are the guardians of their childrens' well being, know their children best and should be able to make the decision to opt their child out of anything they deem inappropriate.

Once notifications are made openly, nothing hidden from parents, the best interests of the children, their families and community are able to be served.  Anything less is a breach of trust.

It is my hope that you will be trustworthy as you approve and include this amendment in state regulations and then hold firm on it being honored.

Gratefully submitted,

Janet M. Phillips
