A FAMILY for ALL Children

I am writing to express my opinion that faith based organizations should not be allowed to discriminate against lesbian, gay and bisexual people who want to adopt.  They should be held to the same screening, preparation, home studies and ongoing training that ALL families hoping to adopt.  And their fitness to parent a child should be based on their ability to meet the individual needs of the child.

Numerous reports and studies find that there are no differences in the parenting of homosexuals or the adjustment of their children. The issue is so far beyond dispute that it would be irrational to hold otherwise; the best interests of children are not preserved by prohibiting homosexual adoption. Judges need to rule based on the scientific consensus that children raised by gay parents are at least as well adjusted as other kids.

There are far too many children throughout the United States who age out out of the foster care system without having ever been adopted.   This is a travesty in our country where there are people who WANT to adopt these children, and are not allowed as they are lesbian or gay.

Judges and lawmakers need to step up for these neglected and abandoned children, and to insist that even faith based organizations do everything they can to to ensure that each child in foster care has an equal opportunity to grow in a loving home.
