What should matter most when placing a child is the child itself, not the parent's sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, race, ethnicity, age, relationship/family status, disability, political beliefs, or natural origin.
State-licensed agencies should not be allowed to discriminate, period. As much as I'd like to make sure that no more homophobes adopt children and perpetuate bigoted viewpoints, the child's needs must come first. Whether or not the home is safe and loving should take precedence.
I believe the State Board of Social Services should restore the protections proposed originally against such discrimination.
