Every child deserves a loving home and it is a travesty that we shuffle so many from temporary placement to temporary placement, denying them the opportunity to be adopted into a caring and stable family simply because that family is headed by two men or two women. I am a highly qualified licensed public school teacher, and I question why the state of Virginia trusts me with the safety and educational well-being of 115 adolescents Monday-Friday, for 7 hours a day, but does not trust me to raise one child with my partner? I treat every one of my students with respect and fairness regardless of whether they are gay or straight; I wish the state of Virginia would treat me the same way.
