Preserve Religious Freedom

I feel very strongly that faith-based child placement agencies should be able to continue making decisions that are consistent with their religious beliefs, including their beliefs about marriage and family life. They currently have this right under both federal and state law and this right should be preserved since faith-based agencies provide vital services to our communities. To force faith-based agencies and individuals in the adoption process to allow adoptions by families whose values are not consistent with their own would be a travesty of justice.

The adoption of a child is a very sensitive process to all of the individuals and organizations involved. The main focus of concern, obviously, should be the child and the adopting parents. This process should not be used as a tool to force societal change on the faith based child placement agencies, but rather these agencies should remain free to identify adoptive parents who are compatible with their values and religious beliefs.
