opposition to Proposed regulation 22 VAC 40-131-170(B)

Proposed regulation 22 VAC 40-131-170(B) would require a Licensed Private Child Placing Agency to accept any person who applies to become a foster or adoptive parent regardless of whether that person agrees with the agency’s religious and moral beliefs. Agencies that do not comply with this new regulation would be in danger of losing their license to place children.

I ask you to firmly stand against this proposed change and allow these faith-based agencies to continue their work placing vulnerable children in stable, loving homes.  Faith-based groups have been strong advocates for children in Virginia and we need to continue to give them the freedom to do so.  Unfortunately it will be the children who lose out if agencies hands are tied as a result of these regulations going forward.

Thank you for your consideration.
