Purpose of the meeting
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the current issues of the Virginia Racing Commission. Comments from the public will be received towards the end of the meeting and will be limited to 5 minutes per person. During the meeting the Commission will hold hearings concerning the recognition of majority horsemens’ groups and a non-profit industry stakeholder organization. Please see the Notice of Hearing below, or contact the Virginia Racing Commission at 5707 Huntsman Road, Suite 201-B, Richmond, Virginia, 23250. To all interested parties: Effective July I, 2015 Senate Bill 1097, 2015 Acts of Assembly Chapter 751, clarifies that the Virginia Racing Commission has the authority to recognize majority horsemens' groups and the non-profit industry stakeholder organization defined in the Code of Virginia. On July 1, 2015 the Virginia Racing Commission will meet to decide which groups and which organization to recognize. Any party who wishes to be considered as a majority horsemens' group or industry stakeholder organization should submit its evidence and written argument to the Virginia Racing Commission, c/o Executive Secretary Bernard J. Hettel, at 5707 Huntsman Road, Suite 201-B, Richmond, Virginia, 23250 by June 25, 2015. The Commissioners of the VRC will review all submitted materials. On July I the VRC will meet to consider all applications. Any party submitting evidence should be present on July I to answer questions from the Commissioners. After reviewing the evidence and questioning the representatives of the applicants, the VRC may vote to recognize the groups and organization on July I. The hearings to consider the above issue will be conducted by the Virginia Racing Commission on July 1, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.. in the Patrick Henry Building. 1111 East Broad Street. Richmond. Virginia 23219. Any applicant may present evidence on its behalf and subpoena witnesses to testify for it. Any applicant may be represented by an attorney. Please be advised, that if an interested party fails to appear at a hearing, the Virginia Racing Commission may proceed in its absence and render a decision. Public data, documents, and information may also be considered by the Virginia Racing Commission.
