| Purpose of the meeting A public hearing to receive comments on a draft permit modification for the Battle Creek Landfill. Page County has applied for a modification to a permit that allows the Battle Creek Landfill to operate an existing landfill in Page County, Virginia. This modification to the permit would allow redesigns of the bottom liner and final cover grades to increase the top of the landfill elevation from approximately 1320 feet to approximately 1350 feet and to increase the disposal capacity from approximately 4.85 million cubic yards to approximately 7.97 million cubic yards with no change of the landfill footprint. This modification would also allow options for geomembrane/GCL alternate liner, leachate recirculation, and active gas collection system. This permit modification also incorporates the gas compliance network change, approved in March 28, 2012, of replacing Gas Monitoring Well GM-7A with Gas Monitoring Wells GM-7B through 7D. DEQ accepts comments by e-mail, fax or postal mail. All comments must include the name, address and telephone number of the person commenting and be received by DEQ within the comment period. DEQ also accepts written and oral comments at public hearings. The public may review the draft permit and application at the DEQ office named below. Copies of the permit documents are also available at Massanutten Regional Library – Luray Branch at 100 Zerkel Street, Luray and at Page County Administration Office at 551 Mechanic Street, Luray. The public comment period begins on November 14, 2013 and ends on January 3, 2014. | |
