I am a retired pastor, having served United Methodist churches in Virginia from 1975-2011. During this time frame, I was an organizer for a couple of churches to do Volunteer Emergency Families for Children program called PLUS (Partners in Learning and Understanding Students). While I was pastor at Corinth UMC in Sandston, VA, I organized a tutoring program at Sandston Elementary School in Henrico County, VA. During that time that I served as a tutor for various students, I witnessed personally the process of taking a student out of his/her class and being physically escorted to a seclusion room within a separate class room. I saw this happen on almost every occasion that i was in the school. These children were  carried past class rooms with doors open and other students observing how children were being handled with behavior conditions. That was 20 years ago. Now, I must wonder how the learning from those observations get translated into family discipline. i also heard a girl calling out one day, "Moma, I just want my moma." So, I got up and went to that sound and discovered that 3 teachers were on top of an African American girl, who was face down on the floor. I asked them to stop. They refused indicating that they were appropriately trained.
