| Board Description: | The department is responsible for the administration of the statutes respecting labor, industry, and labor relations, and is authorized to make regulations to carry out those statutes. The agency is responsible for investigating all complaints respecting unlawful withholding of wages, failure to pay the applicable state minimum wage, complaints of violations of the right-to-work law, and other law related laws. The agency also investigates and enforces the child labor laws. The agency administers the Virginia Occupational Safety and Health Program, the Virginia Apprenticeship Program, and the provisions of the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Act and the related regulations of the Safety and Health Codes Board and the Virginia Apprenticeship Council. The department also issues asbestos and lead project permits to licensed asbestos contractors and certified lead contractors. The department is designated as the state agency for conciliation and mediation of labor disputes affecting public utilities. The agency is also responsible for enforcing the Overhead High Voltage Line Safety Act. |
