General Information
Action Summary The 2014 Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 758 that amended Section 22.1-298.1 of the Code of Virginia to require every teacher seeking initial licensure with an endorsement in the area of career and technical education to have an industry certification credential in the area in which the teacher seeks endorsement. The 2014 Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 373 that amended Section 54.1-2603 of the Code of Virginia requiring individuals to hold a valid license issued by the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology in order to practice speech pathology. Effective July 1, 2014, the Virginia Board of Education no longer issues or renews licenses with an endorsement in speech-language pathology. Effective July 1, 2015, in order to practice speech-language pathology in Virginia public schools, an individual must hold a valid speech-language pathologist license issued by the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. Effective July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015, in order to practice speech-language pathology in Virginia public schools, an individual must hold an active five-year, renewable license with a valid endorsement in speech-language pathology issued by the Virginia Board of Education or a current, valid license in speech-language pathology issued by the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.
